Patrons of Music at Leamington Hastings
President - John Lill CBE
2011 saw as back for a full year in our home, All Saints's Church in Leamington Hastings. The church has been expertly refurbished. The organ has not yet been replaced, though there is a temporary instrument to support church services. Towards the end of the year a new public address system was installed, to replace the temporary arrangements put in place after the fire.
The concert season began with a consummate solo piano performance by Cedric Tiberghien, before an appreciative but relatively small audience.
Then came Red Priest with "Pirates of the Baroque", with over 250 people, including a few families attending this concert. The first half of the year ended with a warmly-appreciated concert by the Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra including double violin concertos by JS Bach and Sir Malcolm Arnold, with the latter composer's daughter listening in the chancel.
The second half of the season began with the Cepicky, Rosefeld , Dussek piano Trio. This trio, like a few others in the past (famously Thiebaud, Casals, Cortot) is formed by players with quite separate careers (we have seen Leos Cepicky before as first violin in the Wihan quartet) but who come togther because they enjoy playing as an ensemble. This clearly showed, and, speaking personally, this was a most wonderful concert in a year of a very high standard of musicianship. Next came the London Concertante, with a superb programme, topping it all with a performance of Schuberts Octet that delighted the audience. Finally, if you wanted to hear choral quality off the highest order, in a wonderfully atmospheric performance, then the final concert with Ex Cathedra at Leamington Hastings was not to be missed, and we had a near sell-out to end the concert season.
We have a programme of wonderful music for 2012 to come, straing with John Lill, and again we will be consulting with our Patrons about the 2013 and 2014 programmes, which are now being planned. We would like to express our gratitude to all our patrons for their continuing support, including:.
